Job advert for the GINAMO scientist based at Copenhagen Zoo

Copenhagen Zoo (ZOO) is looking to hire a scientist responsible for the science-based design and facilitation of stakeholder workshops under the international project ‘Genetic Indicators for NAture MOnitoring’ (GINAMO). The successful applicant will join the ZOO’s staff in the Conservation Department and will function as programme officer within the ZOO’s team of CPSG Europe - the European Regional Resource Centre (RRC) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Species Survival Commission (SSC) Conservation Planning Specialist Group (CPSG) – hosted by the ZOO. GINAMO is a three-year EU Biodiversa+ project involving 11 partner institutions from eight countries. GINAMO will use existing open access genetic and non-genetic data (including Earth observation data) to best determine accurate estimates of the two genetic diversity indicators of the Convention on Biological Diversity Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

Job Description

The Scientist:

  • is responsible for the preparation, design, facilitation, communication follow up, and participation in the scientific evaluation, of the in-person stakeholder-inclusive country workshops within the international project ‘Genetic Indicators for NAture MOnitoring (GINAMO)’.
  • contributes to further development of the ZOO’s conservation work and the species conservation planning work of CPSG Europe.
  • engages in and contributes to knowledge sharing inside and outside the ZOO, including contributions to GINAMO related publications, communications and presentations.
  • contributes to a limited extent to relevant forums inside and outside the ZOO.

Working Arrangements

The position is a three-year full-time post, based at Copenhagen Zoo. Occasionally it will be necessary to work at weekends and outside normal working hours. There is a holiday allowance of 25 days per year and a company pension is available.

Start date: 1 April 2024, preferred, or as soon as possible thereafter.
