PhD Position announcement

Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) is looking for a PhD candidate in the frames of the Biodiversa+ project "FuncNet - Improving the Functional Connectivity of Grassland Networks for Plant-Pollinator Interactions". The successful candidate will work on the genetic and population ecological aspects of a grassland plant, in combination with pollinator observations and analyses. Application deadline is 10.02.2023. The position is for 3 years with a start date as soon as possible. For more information, check the attached document.

This episode is dedicated to our fellow G-BiKEr, Michael Bruford. Mike is a world-known molecular ecologist, a conservationist extraordinaire, and a dedicated G-BiKEr. We love you, Mike!!!

Norwegian Biodiversity & Genomics Conference 2023

G-BiKE coorganizes the first annual Norwegian Biodiversity & Genomics Conference in Oslo on February 8-10th, 2023! This meeting will celebrate biodiversity, genomics with applications to biodiverse species, and their intersection - biodiversity genomics. Registration and abstract submission are now open.

New Perspective article by Hoban et al.

Hoban et al. published a Perspective article in Conservation Genetics that comments on how goals and targets of the GBF have evolved, the improvements that are still needed, lessons learned from this process, and connections between goals and targets and the actions and reporting that will be needed to maintain, protect, manage and monitor genetic diversity. Authors stress how it is possible and necessary that the GBF strives to maintain genetic diversity within and among populations of all species, to restore genetic connectivity, and to develop national genetic conservation strategies, and to report on these using proposed, feasible indicators.
