Report of the G-BiKE's delegation from the COP15

Linda Laikre, Jess da Silva, Maggie Hunter, Alicia Mastretta, Ivan Paz-Vinas, Sean Hoban, and Cristiano Vernesi attended the COP-15 representing G-BiKE and The Coalition for Conservation Genetics. During the two weeks of the COP-15, hundreds of persons visited our stand to learn about genetic diversity conservation. The main objective was to ensure that parties will adopt strong wording, Goals, Targets and Indicators related to genetic diversity in the final version of the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. New G-BiKE WG3 publication

Freshly out of the press: Myriam Heuertz and 20+ other G-BiKErs joined forces on the publication titled "The application gap: Genomics for biodiversity and ecosystem service management" that was published in Biological Conservation. The paper discusses how biodiversity and ecosystem services (ES) management can benefit from genomic knowledge and the existing gap in its application in ES management. Authors propose a framework for genomics-informed biodiversity and ES management actions that tackle conservation, adaptation, productivity, invasives, and restoration, and call for policy developments and scientists-managers synergies to bridge the gap.

CBD side event presentation: Genetic Diversity Goal, Target, and Indicators

The Coalition for Conservation Genetics and G-BiKE co-hosted a side event on Genetic Diversity goals, targets and indicators at COP15, which included an update on the ongoing application of genetic diversity indicators. The event took place on Saturday 2022.12.10 @ 13:15. and was a huge success, with 115 attendees and interest from parties, NGOs, and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity. We also had more than 100 people watching online! It was fantastic to hear the SBSTTA chair acknowledge the diversity in countries, languages, speakers and delicious food for the event.

G-BiKE's WG5 leader won the Annual Federal Award for Science

Another success for our Action! For her work with G-BiKE and the Coalition for Conservation Genetics in translating genetic diversity conservation into the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, including publishing the paper in BioScience (Hoban et al., 2021), WG5 leader, Belma Kalamujić Stroil won the Annual Federal Award for Science in the field of Natural Sciences. The award was given by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Congratulations!
